Flydubai achieves strong financial growth

Flydubai’s pre-tax profit reached AED 2.5 billion ($674 million), reflecting a 16 percent increase from the previous year. The airline’s total revenue grew to AED 12.8 billion ($3.5 billion), a 15 percent increase from AED 11.2 billion ($3 billion) in 2023.

According to His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, the airline has established itself as a key player in Dubai’s aviation industry by expanding air links and supporting economic and tourism growth.

“Flydubai continues to push boundaries and reach new milestones year-on-year. Its business model is built on solid foundations and a commitment to supporting Dubai’s economic and tourism vision,” he stated.

He also emphasized flydubai’s role in improving connectivity and facilitating trade and tourism, making Dubai one of the most accessible cities in the world.

Operational efficiency and cost management drive success

Flydubai’s EBITDA increased by 15 percent to AED 4.1 billion ($1.1 billion), driven by a focus on cost efficiency, digitalization, and customer experience improvements.

Fuel costs accounted for 28 percent of operating expenses in 2024, down from 32 percent in 2023, due to a lower average fuel price.

The airline reported a closing cash and bank balance of AED 4.7 billion ($1.3 billion), including pre-delivery payments.

Passenger growth and demand for premium travel

Flydubai carried 15.4 million passengers in 2024, an 11 percent increase from 2023.

Additional highlights include:

  • Overall capacity (Available Seat Kilometres – ASKM) grew by 10 percent
  • Passenger Load Factor increased by 1.2 percentage points
  • Passenger Yield rose by 1 percent, reflecting higher demand
  • Business Class passengers increased by 18 percent, carrying nearly 500,000 passengers in 2024

The rise in passenger numbers was fueled by strong demand for both business and leisure travel, with Business Class services continuing to gain popularity.

Flydubai expands fleet with new aircraft orders

Flydubai’s aircraft order book now includes:

  • 127 Boeing 737 aircraft to be delivered over the next decade
  • 30 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, valued at $11 billion, set for delivery from 2027

These aircraft additions mark flydubai’s expansion into wide-body aircraft, supporting its long-term growth strategy.

Conclusion

Flydubai’s record-breaking financial performance in 2024 highlights its strong business model, operational efficiency, and increasing passenger demand. With new aircraft orders and a growing international network, the airline is positioned for continued expansion in the coming years.
